Silk Painting with Batik

Instructed by Beth Abaravich

This class will introduce participants to the technique of Batik on silk. A piece of unique wearable art is created by layering French silk dyes and wax. After stretching the silk, A wash of color is applied. After the first layer is dry, hot wax is placed on the scarf using various applicators. This creates a design that s then filled in with another layer of dye. Beth will steam the student's work to ensure that the wax is completely removed and the colors remain vibrant. Students will pick up their finished work from StitchSpace after steaming.
